Jim Sheaffer 11 #9 Posted August 21 Does anyone have an adjustment procedure for this or a Youtube link to one? I noticed today the engine RPMs on my '86 310-8 seemed low. I checked it with a tach and found it was only 3100 RPM. The long spring on mine also seems to be way too long, so I'm assuming something slipped and is not pulling on the gov. arm properly. With throttle lever on full and engine running, loosen the throttle cable clamp. Pull/slide the cable back out of the clamp until the RPMs are achieved and then tighten the clamp. Adjustments can also be made by changing the connection holes for the linkage. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Yep, except that if it's original the 1986 310-8 that @Jim Sheaffer has came with a Kohler 241 engine, different setup than what @Goldnboy is working with. The procedure for adjusting the maximum RPM on the 1986 is described in section 18 of the parts and service manual for that tractor, with one pretty important correction: the "clockwise/counterclockwise" instructions are backward. peter lena 8,631 #14 Posted August 21 @dmac note very light extension springs , on choke / throttle assist , also perforated go to spring pull point , very easy to add to any related screw point , also any movement point is PENETRATING OIL LUBRICATED , like 3-1 penetrating oil , verify its enhancement , that spring on throttle plate , first photo , is critical for fast starts , almost delicate in its function , yet makes a big improvement in starts .LOOK AT A FAILURE AS AN OPPORTUNITY , TO INCREMENTIALLY ELIMINATE IT , not a one and done , start / stop , easier / same ? make a change , all my cables , linkage points , slide with total ease . pete Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Jim Sheaffer 11 #16 Posted August 22 Finding this site, and especially this thread, has been most informative. The first and most important bit of knowledge I've acquired is that my 310-8 is obviously not an '86, as it has an M10 engine. Further research is required. Furthermore, my throttle cable sheath is fully retracted at its attachment point at the bell crank, and the long spring connecting the bell crank to the governor arm is jammed together, as if it were too long. The bell crank needs to be rotated almost it's entire distance and when it is, the spring is not stretched at all. Do I? A. Shorten the spring? B. adjust the governor arm? C. Back up and punt? Correct me if I'm wrong.....to adjust the governor arm, do I loosen the arm clamp and turn the governor shaft counter clockwise until it stops and retighten? peter lena 8,631 #18 Posted August 23 @Rick3478 might get some , super lube on those movement areas , also noting the holes in the cable mount pull point ? added light extension springs from there to rectifier mount screws , perforated mounting point , lets the springs always assist to close cable movement , very simple add on to cable movement ease . also like 3/1 penetrating oil inside cable movement . lubrication and spring assisted movement , have that on my 3 kohler engines , just an idea, pete Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
