Bow_Extreme 544 #26 Posted August 2, 2023 (edited) Well, it appears I have a bad valve or seat. Going to unfortunately take a loss for now and swap this engine out with another, nearly new engine, I have sitting on the shelf. Not what I wanted or needed. I feel somewhat defeated on this. . Oh well, can’t win them all. I’ll eventually fix this engine but that will have to come to another day. Edited August 2, 2023 by Bow_Extreme 1

Did you pull the head to be sure what is going on?

I decarboned, made very minor valve clearance adjustments, and installed new head gaskets. Torqued bolts to spec.

Since it took "very minor valve clearance adjustments" what leads you to believe there is a valve problem? What were the compression readings?

I assume the throttle was wide open and the choke off when you took the compression readings. I had the throttle at idle one time when I ran a compression check on a KT-17. Numbers were way lower than with the throttle wide open. My apologies if the question seems insulting, but I've done it myself and know what happens when you do. lynnmor 7,305 #32 Posted August 3, 2023 Your compression is at the low limit, I would would service the valves. Typically the throttle position doesn’t matter, on small governed engines, since the governor opens the throttle plate till the engine reaches at least idle speed.
