ebinmaine 67,546 #1 Posted May 29, 2023 For several years now Trina and I along with her mom and our best friend have gone to a southern NH State Park that has a beautiful remote camping site. The site is about 6/10 of a mile from the parking area. We intend to keep going there as an annual event and we're looking for a way to make the transition from car full to site full a little easier. We've used a pull cart. We've created a pull cart from a canoe and a two wheeled hauler given to us by @JCM Both worked pretty well. This year we used the @JCM wheelset cart and combined it with a rooftop/trailer hitch we had on hand. Trina bought the front hitch part of a bike trailer and off we went with nuts bolts and screws in hand..... I towed several hundred pounds of camping gear over roots rocks etc for a total of 6+ miles. Overall. Excellent. We discovered after all the work was done that the forward hitch pull bar needs to be substantially stronger. 12

Horse Newbie 7,070 #3 Posted May 30, 2023 Just wondering… how does it do when you make a right turn ?… Am I seeing a pinch point ?

In theory you'd be able to pinch but because bikes lean over WAY before they turn that angle it works fine. I actually tried to bind it before we loaded so I'd know what not to do. I couldn't turn slow and sharp enough to get it.
Kenneth R Cluley 525 #5 Posted May 30, 2023 Eric you are a "BEAST" if you hauled that down a rocky rooty trail. Impressive! 1

We've concluded that if we were doing a multi day trip we'd obviously take ONLY what we could carry long distances. We do NOT do that. All our excursions are multiple nights in the same location no matter where we're going. Tractor stuff. Hiking. Visiting. Etc. We figure that the moving of heavy stuff is a great workout and when done, we have all the conveniences of a normal Car Camping trip.
Lee1977 6,663 #8 Posted May 30, 2023 While you are adding a heaver hitch, add a receiver type hitch to the car-carrier.for the tongue. Then add some brackets to the bottom of the car-carrier to attach the wheel unit with 4 small hitch pins and spring clips. These came from Tractor supply.
