Bach-Ed 170 #1 Posted May 24, 2023 I've never been really happy with my 857 and mowing. I think it has an RL-367 deck. But the motor/deck belt has been a been a problem. The belt was shot. So, I went to get a new belt. I got a 4L belt which fits on the engine pulley and the idler pulley. But it looks like the triple pulley is a 3L. And it will throw a new 4L belt. So when all else fails I look at the part diagram and the drawing looks like the outside pulley is a different size. Do I have a similar but different model deck? Or over the years did someone put the wrong pulley on?
squonk 41,041 #2 Posted May 24, 2023 (edited) That pulley looks wrong to me. Should look more like this to work on a 857: The RL367 deck had a large pulley to use on the new Lever operated PTO like on the 1267. Someone tried to make that deck work on the 857. That is not original style engine on that tractor either. Edited May 24, 2023 by squonk
Bach-Ed 170 #3 Posted May 24, 2023 yes, the original engine was replaced. But now I am in a bit of dilemma as to what to do. If I use a 3L belt I'm assuming it won't work properly in the 4L shape of the engine pulley.
squonk 41,041 #4 Posted May 25, 2023 (edited) Part of your trouble is the engine belt alignment. On the stock 857 Kohler 8 the belt to drive the tractor is on the inner most sheave. Looks like your tractor drive belt is on the pulley sheave for the mower deck causing a mis alignment that would throw the belt using the outer sheave to drive the mower. The RL 367 originally had a big drive pulley. Edited May 25, 2023 by squonk
