hotajax 223 #1 Posted May 24, 2023 Hi, all. I have Harbor Fright 10 minutes away, is their tank decent for a few years? Thanks. Other brands working out for you?
lynnmor 7,306 #2 Posted May 24, 2023 I bought a HF tank about a dozen years ago, the only issues were the valve went bad and the hose is stiff. The valve they use is exactly like the cheap ones you find on fleabay. Look at the hose, if it is too stiff and short, consider upgrading to one that suits.
hotajax 223 #3 Posted May 25, 2023 Same thing, the valve went bad, can't get air in. Hose not too bad. I had this old tank for 30 years, so I guess it doesn't owe me anything. Thanks.
ri702bill 8,322 #4 Posted May 25, 2023 (edited) I made two modifications to mine - ditched their short dedicated air chuck hose to a female air disconnect. I can fill it a LOT quicker that way and use whatever inflator or air line I want. Filling thru their valve is a PITA.... The inside is uncoated steel - welded a bung and drain on one end - added a protective steel ring to prevent damaging the valve. Works fine - made up a male / male fitting with quarter turn valve for filling from the compressor ... Bill Edited May 25, 2023 by ri702bill

Just search for a portable tank valve replacement kit or maybe order the different parts to build your own the way you like it.
kpinnc 12,061 #6 Posted May 25, 2023 I got a handheld pump. It's $25, but the battery is about $40. It lasts forever and is much easier to deal with than a tank. Has the easy to use valve grabber, and pressure guage built in. Best money I've spent in a long time!

I didn't even think of a repair kit until you told me such a thing existed. Good show.
