1978 C-81

Recommended Posts

Picked up this C-81 last night, the person I bought it from said it was a 78. It is in pretty nice shape but not running. I was mainly looking for a deck, but for $200, they threw the tractor in for free!

Person said it needs a fuel pump and spark plug, but they I don't think they knew what they were doing. The coil is cracked and it has a monster electric fuel pump on it. I will put it all back like it was and see if it will run then.

I am going to throw the deck on my 310 for now. My house and my shop are 8 miles apart, so I wanted something to mow with, I can get through my gate in the backyard.

Is this deck have sealed bearings? I can't find zerks anywhere. The deck looks fantastic and maybe came from something newer, It looks for like the red on my deck that came with the 310.

PTO doesn't seem to have much wear on the deck pulley at all.

OH.......The coolest thing about it, is I know the guy that sold this new, he is a member of the tractor club I belong too!!!!

Blades are sharp and have no knicks in them at all!!

No tag on the deck that I can find.

This will be a perfect candidate for a "Pete Treat", not sure there is a dent on it!!!

That is what I thought, but I have always mowed with my zero turn, so haven't even messed with WH deck before.

Very nice grab indeed!  An 8hp model is on my wish list at some point.  Would love to find this kind of deal.  I hope the tractor is an easy fix.  I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on mowing with the 10hp vs. 8hp.  Is that a 37" or 42" deck?

I have a 42 in deck for my 310, but they have a huge metal chute on the right side and will not go through a 48" gate.

The 36" deck should be perfect for my small yard.Or maybe its a 37, either way it will work for my needs.

Good Score!! Looks like the deck got dropped on one wheel - fix that severe camber damage first....

Just got finished wiping the deck down with PB Blaster and will tackle that this week. I just picked it up last night, but itching to get it going.

The deck looks very nice, it couldn't have been used too much.

I know what you mean on that chute.  I’m in the same boat as you with the 42” deck being too wide for the gate to the woods behind my house.  I mow an area there but have to take the deck on and off to get through the gate.    Not terrible but annoying.  Can’t wait to find a smaller deck.

The bigger question I have is the Dakota trailer in the background.  What is up with that?

When the motor went south, my son built it into a camper. It is a little tongue heavy but not as much as you would think. It works!
