wh500special 2,184 #1 Posted May 21, 2023 Is it ok to apply a small dab of antiseize or grease to the threaded portions of the caliper slide pins and the also to the bolts that hold the caliper bracket to the brake assembly? Obviously to keep them from seizing up to make the next brake job a little easier. I’m sort of an “antiseize on everything under the car” kind of guy, but perhaps this practice is shunned on brake hardware. I plan to put new brakes on the van next weekend so thought I’d ask preemptively. I don’t remember what I’ve done before. Steve
squonk 41,118 #2 Posted May 21, 2023 Ok by me and I was a GM and Chrysler mechanic for almost 20 years. Just don't get it on the friction material.
ri702bill 8,322 #3 Posted May 21, 2023 (edited) We use a Permatex Hi Temp grease on the slider pins and the square ends of the pads - once they are "fitted". (Most aftermarket pads require filing to get them to slide... OE pads fit much better) Nice - comes with the applicator brush in the cap - probably good for 30 or more brake jobs... Had to pry the pads out of the bracket?? Either not fitted or lubed, or both... Use sparingly as Mike said... ( a semi-annual ritual, spring & fall if you own a Ranger in rust country).....
