416-8 (Onan) clean up

Recommended Posts

Docwheelhorse

Hello all,

Cleaning this unit up for a friend... sat on side of house for ~10 years. It has 400 hrs on it

Made alot of progress today swapping gas tank and fuel system out and fresh gear oil / shift boot etc....

The work continues with grease and oil and so on. I had it running already on a gas hose stuck in a jug.

Check out the evil fluids that where in this thing... it turned out to be more work trying to clean tank then put on a used one.

Happy Weekend

Tony

That will be a great tractor once you get it sorted out. I'm still sorting out mine, darn safety switches. Are you in Andover, Ma?

Your friend is very lucky to have someone like you going through it and putting it right!

Such a shame to let it sit for 10 years!

But I understand. (I'm helping my son with a boat that sat 12 years, but at least it was in a closed garage)

Tony - So sad to see what happens when they sit outside....

Organized Confusion (what to start on first??) - right in the front yard!! But the completed tractor makes it worth it...

Everything was picked up and put away... Ive always worked in this spot and don't know why. Lots of machines have passed thru this area.

It's wonderful to get them running no matter what their condition but there's something extra special about a rescue from an outdoor sand lot or bog. It's as if nothing can stop a Wheel Horse with just a little TLC added. Mine needed a come-along to get on the trailer and, $700 later, voila!  :D   Oh, and an Onan no less. Sweet!

@Docwheelhorse nice work on that ! agree with the , separate fuel source  , you did not have any other choice . have always run any recent find on a heavily treated separate jug. looks like a lubrication rub down ? that paint looks much better .  agree with @ri702bill on the stages you were at , have to touch / look at everything , pete
