Changing Blades -- Dopey Questions Time

In the old days when I was younger and stronger, I'd simply remove the mower deck and then flip it over to change the blades.   Whole job took about 45 mins.

 

Is there an easier way to jack up the tractor so it can be done while the deck is still attached?  I would think an engine hoist would do it, but I'm fresh out of hoists at the moment.

Suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

I've used a 1-1/2 ton chain falls for years....  works great.

The mojack has merits but the price is outrageous. Lowes has a Craftsman copy for $379 and I have seen them for $329 on line free delivery. I use this to change blades with an impact wrench.

Yeah... I know.   Picked it up at a local auction about 25+ years back...but it was new.  Sure as H never paid more that a 'C' note for it.  I've pulled engine/trans combos with it too.  It hangs on a 1/2" link chain looped on a  2" pipe... across 3 double-2x6 stringers in my garage.  I've whacked my head on the hook more than once.... lol.

I use this HF version of the Mojack. Most often it's just to remove the wet clumped grass but at blade changing time too.

I had a Harbor Freight jack, my 520's broke the weldment under the hydraulic jack and pushed it to the ground.  In my opinion, those jacks are only for box store disposable mowers.

I'm just going to assume you put a couple of jack stands under there when you are ready to work...

Or not - just whistle the tune to "Nearer My God To Thee" and hope for the best...

 

Back around 1975, I was picking up painting supplies at the local store when this local guy came in, upset. Seems his friend was changing the auto transmission of a big Olds 98 in a dirt lot after a rain nearby, and the car fell on him - the friend died.... Seems the recently deceased was using FOUR BUMPER JACKS only to raise the car while he was tugging away below. Almost got into a fistfight with the local guy after I offered my lack of condolences.... and my opinion. (I'm still here to talk about it, the guy squished in the mud is not)

Sorry you had trouble with yours. Hopefully nobody was hurt. 

I've had mine for quite a while and use it a lot. No issues. I consider it one of the better buys in a store full of some iffy tools.
