Leaky Garden Hose - Best Repair?

Recommended Posts

hotajax

Small hole in the middle of the hose.  Bot some tape from Super Glue that was supposed to fix it.  Didn't do squat.

I want something smooth and flexible.  Any suggestions?  Flex Seal?  What do you guys like?  I don't want that clunky coupling

Thanks in advance

I have several hoses with bicycle inner tube wrapped with a hose clamp. Also have used clear tube from my kids old fish tank. Several years no leaks... :twocents-twocents:

Nothing will be "smooth" that will hold for any length of time. They make splice kits that are basically a double barb that you fasten with hose clamps, but definitely not smooth.

Go to Harbor Freight. They have pretty good deals on new hoses.

I can't believe that I forgot to pile in the Studebaker Station wagon and head on down to Muldoon's Hardware Store and buy a new hose.  How could I possibly forget that option?

You could try to clean it good with like acetone or thinner, coat it in bead sealer and wrap it in duct tape. :dunno: If you don't want a hose repair coupler, your only options are short term at best, any flexible repair will fail because it doesn't reinforce original tubing. The hole will eventually flex and continue to tear into a larger hole.

I was afraid that would happen.  I got this black goo from 3M, it is very tacky, waterproof, and flexible.  Its purpose is to glue a windshield to the car.  Very strong stuff.  I'll give that a whack.  A standard size caulk tube of this goo is $25 so it better work.

Cool, will take a look.  That old style Flexogen hose is pricey and I don't want to purchase it again.

@hotajax , @Horse Newbie  no it  doesn't have a grease fitting , but very often use , a very light swipe of  SUPER LUBE , in hose set ups , on the fuel hose application , put your squeeze clamp om first , inches back from the mount point , install hose , then slide that spring clamp easily into place , regular stuff for me . greasy pete

Yes, it has a grease fitting, so that the hose can slip through the storage reel faster.  But keep this in mind.  If you're joining two pieces of hose, you can only use grease of certain specifications.  If you look on the forum called "Bob is the Oil guy" there will be guys who can tell you the proper grease you need.
