That sounds like a good deal to me.  Do you have any pictures you can share?  We like pictures!  (My wife says I'm looking at "tractor porn" all the time...  )

The 417-A is capable of handling anything you ask of it, mine is my dedicated snowblower tractor. It has around 1100 hours of mowing time on it and now only sees a few hours a year blowing snow. It’s still going strong, doesn’t smoke and has plenty of power. I love the sound of it under a load, it sounds awesome! @whitewhiskers53What are your plans for yours? And yes we need pictures! Here’s mine.

@whitewhiskers53  good pick up , take advantage of what works , and ENHANCE THE CONNECTION AREAS . don't know what it looks like , but a MMO rubdown or similar aerosol paint feeding would help on any  paint salvation ideas . pete

Had the opposite Winter here Pete. First year since 1989 I didn't have 1 WH tractor set up for snow duty out of 8 runners and boy did we get our Butt kicked. Had to resort to the Diesel. @peter lena

If your engine has that much blowby or a bad breather, some oil mist can enter the points area.  A bad condenser can cause rapid points burning.  You need to do a leakdown test on the engine to determine if it needs overhauled.

Don't give up on it. I had a 417 once, and a little oil can find its way into the ignition points enclosure. How many hours are on the meter? They are terrific tractors.
