Pullstart 62,834 #1 Posted May 12, 2023 I think I know what this is for. I don’t know what it’s called. I picked it up for a buck at an estate sale and would like to swing it around. It looks like some of the teeth need peening back straight, and a beveled edge is applied to the bottom? In it’s current state, it is holding onto more grass than it is cutting.
WHX?? 48,814 #2 Posted May 12, 2023 I had one like that too Kev. Nice yard art anyway Sharpen the teeth with a chainsaw file? Maybe called a scythe mini... 2
ebinmaine 67,424 #3 Posted May 12, 2023 That's a beard trimmer and comb Bubb. Big fellas in the loggin' camps use to use em. Paul Bunyan types. Might cut weeds n grass though.
elcamino/wheelhorse 9,297 #4 Posted May 12, 2023 We always called it a sling blade. I have one that was my ole man's. he used a file on the bottom of the blade to sharpen.
SylvanLakeWH 25,535 #5 Posted May 12, 2023 That's what people who don't own 's use to whack weeds... Not sure why they don't own 's, but I'm not a psychologist so I won't hazard a guess... A Haiku... Hand tools do exist But Wheel Horses are better Can't ride a hand tool
Skwerl58 704 #6 Posted May 12, 2023 I have one and we call it a sling blade also. Mine was passed down to me. The handle bolts and blade bolts need to be kept tight. Sharpen it with a flat file and it works well for clearing a path through tall grass.

elcamino/wheelhorse 9,297 #11 Posted May 12, 2023 @squonk you sure it wasn't a rake or a hoe that wacked you in the head not the kiwis. 1
CasualObserver 3,408 #12 Posted May 12, 2023 Cool, first time I've ever seen one with both ends supported. I've got one in my shed with a golf grip on it. It's what I grew up using to cut the ditch weeds around the culvert. Looks like you can still buy new, called a grass whip.
