JAinVA 4,619 #1 Posted May 12, 2023 (edited) This tree was a hazard. Once removed, the logs needed to be transported through a narrow passage to the sawmill. A log skate would be the answer; but a good one costs over $300. A well used Wheel Horse frame and some welding rod helped me create my own skate. Pullstart 62,813 #6 Posted May 12, 2023 Looks great! Have you ever used a log arch? If I cut more trees more often, I’d likely have one.

JAinVA 4,619 #8 Posted May 12, 2023 (edited) Kev I have not used a log arch. Before the large tractor died I moved logs with a modified boom pole.I welded chain from one side to the other at the boom base to hold the log from climbing up That worked well. WHGuy413 2,683 #12 Posted May 13, 2023 Not gonna lie I saw the title to this post and instantly thought @Pullstart wrote it. But then again his is on ski’s not skates. never used a skate before but have used a home made log arch my dad built. Down side is it’s big and bulky and could probably be half the size it is. If you knew my dad you would know he over builds everything. But I can’t build so I’m not one to complain.
