1054 issue continues

After installing an electric fuel pump fuel is getting to the carb. My tractor has the original ignition switch, starter/ generator and starter button.Today I could not get the tractor to fire or turn over consistently. I cleaned the points and changed the spark plug but it has very little fire to the plug. After turning on the switch and pushing the starter button the engine acted like it might would turn but not. I am now wondering if the switch and button can be wired wrong or does it matter since there are only two connections on each. Any help is appreciated!

Check the setting of your ignition points. With the ignition turned OFF and the spark plug out begin by turning the engine over by hand ( latch the PTO)  turn the the PTO counter clockwise while watching the ignition points. When they open continue turning until the points reach maximum opening. The points should now be open to .020". Now repeat turning the PTO two full revolutions to double check the setting. If they are not at .020" reset them.

The moment opening begins will be setting you ignition timing. The "Static Timing" method can not be used on this engine because it has a spark advance camshaft rather than a compression release cam.
