Stormin 9,981 #1 Posted May 3, 2023 (edited) Having to sell my 12ftx6ft twin axle, as the replacement for the Discovery is only rated for 2 ton, I had to get a replacement. This is a single axle 7ft x 4ft brakeless 3/4 ton. Fine for hauling a tractor but not so for hauling logs. Sides are not very high and loose logs could/would bounce out. So I've been making extensions. Some wood, steel mesh and a bit of spare time now and then, below is as far as I've got by today. Last week. Side frames finished and mesh attached. Need to wok out the tail gate. Top half needs to be QD. Also the sides need securing to the trailer sides. Edited May 3, 2023 by Stormin
ri702bill 8,323 #2 Posted May 3, 2023 Excellent. Top half has to be Quick Disconnect?? How about a pair (3 would be difficult) of HD Door leaf hinges?? Undo the latch(es), slide it to the side - it's off. Reinstall and latch - good to go!!
Stormin 9,981 #3 Posted May 3, 2023 I've been thinking along those lines.
elcamino/wheelhorse 9,299 #4 Posted May 3, 2023 Cover the top with that heavy wire, so you could haul @squonk around the mother country, and he would not get loose and scare the new King.

Stormin 9,981 #10 Posted May 6, 2023 (edited) Got the tail gate frame made today. Also the hinges fitted. All stripped down now for the wood to be treated and hinges painted. Need some new nuts and bolts and catches. I'll see what the Smithy has next week. And NO! It's not twisted before the wise guys start. Stormin 9,981 #11 Posted May 7, 2023 (edited) Just the securing method to sort and new bolts. The red plates you can see are just temporary till I can obtain something thicker, that will be bolted to the outside of the trailer tub, to stop the sides getting pushed outward. BTW. I must confess that the frame is not quite true by 1/4". I'll never make a carpenter. Edited May 7, 2023 by Stormin
