Wheel horse user 15 #1 Posted May 1, 2023 Wanted to introduce myself and thank the moderators for allowing me. I am in sepa with my third Wheel Horse a 98 one year wonder 73540 520xi. I started back in 95 with an 85 417a with plow, 48 mower, and trac vac and used that for 9 years and 300 hrs. It was a great machine wish I had pics of that one, it was pretty sweet. Then moved on to a very nice 520H anniversary which had a 48 deck 48 plow and 42 snowblower stout machine feels premium really nails the classic look. Didn’t put a lot of hours on it but had set it up the way I like. And now the main event. I had to sell the 52-H as I was in a bind and couldn’t store it the way it deserved. Then recently got the itch to try out an xi before there to far gone. I found this on marketplace it looked ok but like zero info on tractor, took a leap of faith. It has a 48 that has been welded but should clean up after a grinder and paint. It has 816hr and looks right to me. I cleaned it up a bit but picked up yesterday. 2
oliver2-44 9,743 #2 Posted May 1, 2023 Nice clean tractor. Is that the one that has Power Steering?
Wheel horse user 15 #3 Posted May 1, 2023 No this is a kohler 20hp vs the Kawasaki that has ps in 20hp configuration.
Wheel horse user 15 #4 Posted May 1, 2023 It was a bit weathered when I got it. The gas fill area was a hoot shining that up.
WHX?? 48,815 #5 Posted May 1, 2023 (edited) Nice... Most often one sees the nose plastics all beat up. Edited May 1, 2023 by WHX??
Wheel horse user 15 #7 Posted May 2, 2023 Thank you. Does anyone know what is above the hitch. Possible bagger holder?
Wheel horse user 15 #8 Posted May 2, 2023 The $375 cough cough bumper cover has been doctored. I haven’t dug into it yet or the lower engine cover panels. Might be worthy of a redecal?

Wheel horse user 15 #10 Posted May 2, 2023 (edited) There are some interesting designs if you don’t mind some artistic freedom. Sometimes though it’s all about the patina. I had that quandary with my 520H it had 534 hours decals were decent there were no surprises with that (other than tach shorting out on hood). I spent the money for a new seat. Which I am assuming will be shortly on this machine. I am dipping it in Armour all trying to soften it up. Wheel horse user 15 #12 Posted May 2, 2023 Wow. They are some sweet decals. Thank you for the link. I will have to see if it fits in budget trying to find a decent local plow setup.
Pullstart 62,842 #13 Posted May 2, 2023 It seems Xi tractors have quite a bit of attention here lately. As always, I’d highly recommend raising the frame up with your jack and inspecting the front axle pivot. With the swept axle design, you can’t get a true feel for it’s wear with weight on it.
Wheel horse user 15 #15 Posted May 3, 2023 Pullstart thank you I believe I watched your video about reinforcing with a square block drilled and sleeved . I was hoping that I could just weld the bolt on now but with over 800 I am sure it is egged out. It pulls a bit to the right I was going to lift it and lube but looks like I might have to go further. Symptoms are you can rock back and forth the axle in the air where there should be no or little slop and could be the cause of it pulling at speed. The steering as it stands seems tighter than my 520H so looking forward to seeing if it would tighten up even more. Thank you once again.
