Sparky-(Admin) 21,733 #1 Posted April 30, 2023 I remember when this caliber of tractor was $799 at Walmart. Opened the hood and was shocked to see the fuel tank is held in place with a plastic zip-tie! Not zip-ties pleural..but just one! I actually opened another one to be sure, yep, a zip-tie. 2
953 nut 56,694 #2 Posted April 30, 2023 Mike, a heavy duty zip tie like that would cost at least a Nickle, multiply that be the million or so of those throw-away mowers and you are talking about the difference of the bean-counters being able to have a Golf Outing rather than a lunch meeting at the company cafeteria! Where are your priorities Mike? Safety always takes second place over important things. 2 9

pacer 3,174 #5 Posted April 30, 2023 Tis sad that workmanship has fallen so badly - all across the board .... but, theres no doubt that zip ties are one of the top ... inovations? to come about - along with PVC pipe, and a few others.

I’m somewhat tall and long in the leg, the ergonomics were not good. I think after mowing for an hour I would get off it kinda stiff like. The seat however was comfy.

Then there's the guys that mow regular with a early 60's gear drive.

Ed Kennell 39,715 #18 Posted May 1, 2023 Wish I had a pic of the Huskee I bought at TSC for $699. Musta been around 1965. It mowed an acre for around 15 years ....then I found a Wheel Horse. I sold the Huskee for $50 ...still running and mowing.

SylvanLakeWH 26,548 #22 Posted May 1, 2023 On the other hand... I bet everyone of us has used zip ties to good use for shall we say dubious purposes??? Zip ties don't rust... fast... easy... brainless... Not defending box store junk... just sayin...

My B-I-L bought a new Murray mower for like $499. His wife likes to mow with the deck all the way down and goes flat out boogie. She mowed under a pine and caught a root. That deck folded like a cheap lawn chair! I straightened it out with a pair of Channel Locks. Edited May 1, 2023 by squonk 1
