953 nut 55,280 #26 Posted April 27, 2023 (edited) In most cases I would think you are paying too much but with an RJ that is probably a good price for both. They are just sooooo cute! Be sure to look around for any extra parts the seller may have forgotten, belt guards, exhaust shields and the correct gas tank can cost you as much as a tractor if you can find them. Get'm both Some parts are interchangeable so... Take a look at the rear hubs on that RJ too. It appears to have a deep seat used on the early ones but it's difficult to tell from a pic. If it has round hubs with 3 lug holes it's an early one. Typical hubs will look like the suburban hubs with 3 ears for the lugs.
ML3 1,212 #28 Posted April 27, 2023 He said he will try to find all the parts. You can barely walk in the garage. It's full of dead iron....mostly Bolens tractors. It's a complete mess. Gonna be a huge chore to get them out. From what I been told the one is a RJ & the other is possibly a Suburban- it has the drop front axle?? I'm thinking if I keep them both making the one that's rusty a rat rod style. Preserve the patina yet paint the wheels & put a built Predator 212 in it.

Say its part of the sheet metal, the implement lift, the exhaust or the brake or the steering or whatever comes to mind! Sound knowledgeable and you’re already ahead. ML3 1,212 #30 Posted April 28, 2023 Got both tractors for $500. I'm ok w/that. I only had to travel 52mi roundtrip. The one is really nice & the other kinda rough. Hopefully with some help I can figure out exactly what I got!
Frankenstein 58 213 #31 Posted April 28, 2023 I personally think you did very well. Good luck with your projects but most of all have fun with it.
wallfish 17,003 #32 Posted April 28, 2023 You did good A pic of the suburban from the side the RJ is blocking might help to determine what it is. It's a 400, 550 or a 401. If it has the clutch pedal a cast pedal will make it a 401. A bent steel pedal will make it a 400 or 550. It's NOT a 551 There are cast numbers on the trans near the shifter. Posting those will help narrow both the RJ and the Suburban down A pic from the back of the RJ too
953 nut 55,280 #33 Posted April 28, 2023 They are both nice looking, did the seller find the box of parts?
