chorusguy 227 #1 Posted April 24, 2023 (edited) I am trying to get my c160 back up to operating level. Am replacing the steering wheel and saw where one solution was to remove dash and wheel from another tractor. I'm fortunate to have a donor and am doing this procedure. Everything on donor is loose and ready to move with the exception of the choke and throttle knobs. I assumed they would just slide off with a little pressure. Um...no. so now I have really nothing to pry against since everything is already detached. Is there some secret that would help me? The knobs wiggle on their respective shafts, but cannot get them to come off. On the other mower, they popped right off. Thanks Robert Edited April 24, 2023 by chorusguy Misspelling
ebinmaine 67,455 #2 Posted April 24, 2023 Double check the knobs to see if there is a tiny little pin holding it in place. Once that's out maybe a hair dryer or low set heat gun to warm the knob. Some of my C series have the pin. Others don't.
rmaynard 15,436 #3 Posted April 24, 2023 Pardon the poor picture, but here's how I did mine.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,041 #4 Posted April 24, 2023 Should be able to pull them off with a claw hammer. They don't stand much heat and get very soft quickly. 1
chorusguy 227 #5 Posted April 24, 2023 #Maynard. You, sir, are a genius. Pry bar and vise grips did the job!!!! Thank you

These rascals were really never intended for remove/replace so when putting them back on (the “T” type on the 400/500s have the same affliction) I put some hot glue in there to firm it up but not make it “epoxy” permanent.

ineedanother 1,369 #8 Posted April 24, 2023 (edited) Glad you got them off. I use an adjustable (crescent) wrench on the lever as small as can be adjusted (without being tight) and then tap tap tap with a hammer. They generally come right off. Works on the rubber(?) caps on brake lever locks and other stuff slid onto flat steel. Edited April 24, 2023 by ineedanother

Good idea I've used an open end wrench to do similar with round shafts too.
