AHS 1,440 #1 Posted April 22, 2023 I got this B80 3 years ago. Pounded down the exhaust valve. Re wired it, put a new seat on it. Changed all the fluids… at least 1/2 gallon of water in the rear end!! (I think i saved it from the junkyard!!) Plowed with it for 3 years, then sold it to a buddy!! The only small block i had, the quickest starting up and the easiest on gas!! It pushed that 42” plow around no problem!! And i sold it!! Now.. onto a. C81 or C85!! 6

Sparky-(Admin) 21,315 #3 Posted April 22, 2023 I recently was gifted a B-80/8 speed. I have a ton of respect for that little tractor and it’s little motor! 5
ri702bill 8,316 #4 Posted April 22, 2023 (edited) You will like an 8 HP C series. Same engine as a B80, but on a long frame tractor - we really like our 1979 C81... Edited April 22, 2023 by ri702bill
Rob J. 1,941 #5 Posted April 22, 2023 The 8hp Kohler is generally enough power for anything the tractor was designed to do and do it sipping gas compared to any of the other bigger Kohlers.

I’m amazed by the power its has for 8hp! I even got it to work a little bit, pushing snow!!

ri702bill 8,316 #11 Posted April 22, 2023 Duh - I was thinking of my parts Commando 800 - way too small for someone 6 foot tall..... same 8 HP Kohler with a 4 speed - smaller tires all around...

I’m inspired by that picture!! A B80 with a deck on it! I was always thinking about putting a deck on mine, but the 36” RD was in a sad state!! How does it mow? Could it handle a 42”? Always questions I’ve wanted to know!
ebinmaine 67,455 #13 Posted April 23, 2023 1 hour ago, AHS said: Could it handle a 42”? It'll handle a 42" deck as long as you're reasonable about what you ask it to do. Medium to slower speeds and don't try to chop a hayfield. 1
Retired Wrencher 5,451 #14 Posted April 24, 2023 AHS hard to beat those B-80`s. Pound for pound a true work horse.

It will spin up a 42” deck I’m sure, but if the grass is long or wet or thick or ya got a large pile of doggie poo in your mowing path it’s going to struggle. Personally I would never do it, you’re just taxing the motor and prematurely wearing it out. The 36RD is the way to go!
