oliver2-44 9,714 #3 Posted April 21, 2023 (edited) Looks like 953 has you off to a good reading start. Penetrating oil and time are your friend, they didn't rust on their overnight. I've had to use a rose bud torch to heat them on one stubborn spindle pulley. Edited April 21, 2023 by oliver2-
daveoman1966 3,745 #4 Posted April 21, 2023 With the blades off, set the bottom side of the spindle into the hollow of a cement block. Remove grease zerk and thread top nut back on to where it is level with the top of the spindle shaft. Hold the flat side of a ball peen hammer on the top of the spindle shaft and, with a BFH, smack that ball peen it like you got a pair. The 'shock' usually pops the shaft down thru the pulley....top nut will stop it from dropping out. This usually works for me.
peter lena 8,592 #5 Posted April 21, 2023 @bds1984 notice the deck to spindle hub bolts in picture ? use that nail puller , as a rocker for leverage , right up against the hub of the pulley . the solid mechanical leverage , and lubricant , with 2 bars makes pulley removal . easy , push both bars out at the same time . pops right off . great time to think about a lucas green hi temp grease , clean out and refill on new bearings . all my decks have this , very quiet , pete

I've used prybars for this in the past. This was the ONLY deck I had zero luck on removing the pulley. That deck and tractor have been long gone now as someone wanted it more than me and came with a Dodge Caravan that surprisingly swallowed up the tractor, deck, and lots more junk I didn't need.
