Lane Ranger 10,941 #1 Posted April 18, 2023 (edited) I know we have had lots of different steering wheel posts on Red Square. Many about taking one off , unusual ones, how to restore some versions and replacements for custom tractors. However, I thought I would start a post to see if we could gather photos of the different versions Wheel Horse used on models made over the years. I will start with some of the steering wheels I have (I took these pictures this morning ) . I have more but it will take some time to get the rest! Pullstart 62,668 #5 Posted April 19, 2023 Production numbers unknown, I’d say millions if not tens of millions of steering wheels were used. Let’s not forget the ones with no steering wheels…. 2

Lane Ranger 10,941 #10 Posted April 19, 2023 (edited) The 603 half steering wheel was a one of a kind Wheel Horse used in 1963. And the aluminum RJ 35 small steering wheel. Edited April 19, 2023 by Lane Ranger

Lane Ranger 10,941 #12 Posted April 19, 2023 Three spoke and two spoke Lawn Ranger steering wheels. The 1968 had a three spoke steering wheel and the models before had a two spoke. And the steering wheels were designed with a pin to remove them in order to take off the hood .
rmaynard 15,393 #13 Posted April 19, 2023 Great thread. Reminds me of the one from years ago titled "How many batteries and tires do you have?". But @Lane Ranger what I want to know is where did you get that aluminum? 701 dash?

But @Lane Ranger what I want to know is where did you get that aluminum? 701 dash? It is not aluminum Bob. It is a 702 steel dash that has been chromed. Extra holes were drilled in it. This 701 I bought was traded back and forth between two Wheel Horse collections twice. I went to one of the guys when he had it and he had six 701's in various states of repair. He asked if I wanted a parts tractor all apart or a $1500 restored beauty. I said I wanted a mid range operating one that required little work and this is what I got. I like this much better than the original 701 plastic dash (or even Glen Pettit's much better repo version). I am pretty sure this is unique among the 701's put there. I got a 701 dash from Glen a few years ago for my grandson's 701 project, and by the time I pulled it out to use it, it had curled, warped and cracked at the holes. I heated and flattened it, and repaired the cracks with crazy glue, but it's just not right. Lowells are supposed to be better, but $40.00 delivered is not in my grandson's budget. Put an ad out for a 702 dash. Yes chroming it ain’t cheap but you can’t take your $ with you Bob. Make an almost unique 701 dash happen! Your grandson will be very appreciative!
