mrharris12 32 #1 Posted April 17, 2023 Have a 414-8 and the pto wont engage when throwing the lever. What are some of the things to check for to see what could be wrong?
mrc 812 #2 Posted April 18, 2023 tension maybe not enough. 1...pull hairpin out. 2..thread trunnion towards seat one turn 3...recheck pto engagement still not enough tension? repeat steps 1, 2 and 3 above pto lever should 'snap over' obviously do not get it crazy tight could also be clutch lining worn out. if so, replace clutch lining. hope this helps
peter lena 8,637 #3 Posted April 18, 2023 @mrharris12 typically not a one and done . found that , washer ing it up to firm the the start area , below battery tray , helps make it a solid smooth start point , agree with @mrc on possibilities , lubricate that trunnion and add a few washers . pete
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,048 #4 Posted April 18, 2023 The 3/4" round stub shaft that goes into the hub has a visible retaining ring in a groove. This ring can slip out of the groove so there is no pressure on the clutch. It just pushes the stub shalt into the ball bearing. You will be able to see this by observing the two ends of the retaining ring. If that is what has happened remove the retaining ring. These rings a stamped when made so one side has sharp edges and the other side has rounded edges. You want the sharp edge facing out so it is better engaged in the groove in the shaft. 2
