Rodney Dangerfield the tractor "no respect"

Happy Sunday Morning,

@grnlark(Matt Castagno) turned me onto this GT1142 as I'm a Briggs guy...

Went and bought it for the nice 48" deck... tractor is all but parts now...

But look at how this thing has been treated---makes me shake my head.

1) this is one of the very early no factory rubber hood strap tractors. So... somebody went and bought the retrofit kit and burned the instructions before looking at them. Check this mess out.

2) I think it needs a longer bolt holding throttle...

3) poor tractor suffered from fat guy syndrome and somebody tore whole dash tower out pulling themselves up with steering wheel.

4) chains will "self clearance themselves and move anything out of way if needed" (gas tank mount)

On and on...

But miraculously the deck and mule drive us very nice

Tony

You can fix it, just going to take a little longer. It's a good thing he didn't have any cut off tools, it might be in more pieces.

Is the plastic on the wheel hub cracked out at the overmold?? That usually goes hand and hand with the dash issue.

I’ve never seen a Work Horse that didn’t have hood latches from the factory. What was supposed to hold it down then?

The scary part about the whole thing is that Briggs! :ychain:

Let me know if you're taking off those hood straps. Need some for the new custom hood. The ones I bought are way too big

That crack at the corners on the dash tower may not totally be from pulling on the steering wheel…

My 1984 Work Horse GT-1600 had a bit of that, though not nearly as bad.

I chalked it up to a little metal fatigue or stress.

A little mig welding and grinding fixed that…

They had this funky latch like a car door and it sucked and was quickly changed to straps by WH

Hi, why do you ask? Supposedly it runs... battery is junk... my plans where to take the seat and put it on a 416-8 (Onan) thats going to a friend in Columbia. The snow plow bracket is coming off and going in my stash and then it was going to get parked for parts... it has a relatively new starter and fuel pump and I have a couple other Briggs tractors that I may combine into one good machine. But like everyone else I'm always full of good intentions but 2 years goes by before I even look at it.

Are you looking for a project? Message me on FB or Text and maybe I can find you something in my pile of waiting projects

Randy

I also find as a "fat guy" that I don't need to try and tear the steering out to get on...
