Stormin 9,981 #1 Posted April 15, 2023 (edited) Today I've been marshalling on the above rally at Carlisle airport. The weather turned out nice for a change. The entrants came from various countries in Europe, there was even some from the US, paying £6,000 for the privilege for the three day event. Cars are all pre WWII. Here are a few photo's for you. Enjoy. This Dutch couple had a bit of a problem. Edited April 15, 2023 by Stormin 3 9 1

Stormin 9,981 #3 Posted April 15, 2023 Here's a map of the circuit. They drive round cones in the shortest time they can. There are penalties for hitting or missing a cone or going the wrong way round one. I was watching the ones marked green. 5

ri702bill 8,323 #5 Posted April 15, 2023 I had a friend back in the late 1960's that had the exact same problem with a beater of a 1966 Pontiac - except he wrinkled the rear quarter every time the wheel, drum, & axle would depart (wing for you folks across the pond) every time he took a hard turn.... Great pictures - keep 'em runnin'. Bill
squonk 41,118 #6 Posted April 15, 2023 Love it. Looks like a blast. I bet it would be really cool on dirt. And maybe a little easier on the wheels. Some of them are really leanin!

Pullstart 62,889 #8 Posted April 16, 2023 Awesome Norm! Did the right hand drive cars have to go around the track backwards?
953 nut 55,243 #9 Posted April 17, 2023 Great pictures, . In the 1960s we had similar events on open country roads. Rather than fastest speed winning the event organizers would drive the course making random stops along the way and the winner would be the car that was closest to time of the organizers trip. A 1941 Mercury convertible is a rarity in the USA, must be very scarce in Europe.
