peter lena 8,620 #3 Posted April 14, 2023 @jim3sr , suggestion , I use dielectric grease , on that bushing fit , made for dissimilar connections , really lets the grommet find the spot it wants to be in , also use it on the valve swap , only a suggestion . pete
peter lena 8,620 #4 Posted April 14, 2023 @oldlineman went after every trouble spot on the 312-8 , i,m selling .because thats the running base line , new fuel pump , carb, new rectifier , trans flush and refill , engine flush / refill , new headlights , wiring , complete lubrication , that wiring was a moldy grass packed mess . how can you let anything get that bad ? the last one for me , pete

I have also found it is much easier if I just start the barbed fitting in the grommet in the flange only to the first barb, then insert the grommet fully into the tank. Then push the barbed fitting in to expand and seal the grommet to the tank.
peter lena 8,620 #6 Posted April 14, 2023 @Ed Kennell like STENS items , just got an air filter , for $ 8 , free shipping on amazon , when I first started on that fuel tank valve replacement , its in an awkward spot / angle , did not like the twisting grab of the rubber , was not letting it fully set into place . often use dielectric grease / oil in fitting areas , another thing is getting a lifting push on that set up . always looking for an easier fix, pete.
