Slempm 9 #1 Posted April 12, 2023 I’m new(ish) to dealing with old wheel horses. I have a 702 that is running well but it needs some work. My welds broke in my foot rest so I need to repair that and I feel like extra bracketing was added later (don’t look like original wheel horse brackets) but the brackets probably have a well intended purpose. I want to learn everything I can about my 702. My eventual goal is to strip it down and refinish it entirely, I’d just like to understand it all first. I live in Virginia near the coast and it’s hard to find wheel horse junkies down this way. If anyone has bracket diagrams on how attachments should be mounted I’d love to see them. Also, if anyone in VA has 702 attachments I’d be very interested in buying! 3
Pullstart 62,843 #2 Posted April 12, 2023 Welcome! Are you handy with a welder? I have a 502 frame which should be the same, shy of the battery mount. I did a ‘63-64 frame and front axle swap on my ‘62. If you can get your hands on one of those, it might even be better for working. They changed the steering and front axle design and improved the steering radius greatly.

The exploded views should help answer some of your questions.
wallfish 16,994 #5 Posted April 12, 2023 That foot rest appears like the later stirrup style and not sure what brackets you're referring to. Can you add some pics?

My only problem is it truly is a nightmare trying to find any old wheel horses in my area. i am not handy with a welder but I’m about to buy one and start learning!
