Any tips on replacing one of these?

Its labor intensive...not gonna lie, you just about have to tear it down to do it right.  There may be lifter damage..no way to know.  I dont think you "have" to pull the heads if you can get the lifters out from inside.  I rebuilt a 23hp last year, ill post pics

Hi all..Just a follow up to state this is exactly what was wrong. The cam lob was worn. Got it replaced. Thanks for all the help!

Glad you got it diagnosed right and repaired right.  Watch your oil, if oil gets really bad it can take it out on the cam/lifters.
