Question Regarding Carb Installation

Recommended Posts

hotajax

Tractor is a 314-8.

Fuel ilne comes up to the carb from below.

The carb has a fuel elbow that points downward in a 6 o'clock position toward the fuel line.

The fuel elbow MUST be pointed downward to the hose.

But, in that position, the fuel elbow is not snug in the carb.

Question:  How do I make sure the fuel elbow is snug in the carb in a 6 o'clock position  so I'm not shooting fuel all over the place?

Is this a job for Teflon tape?

In short, yes :D

I put tape on all of mine. General purpose white is fine for gas or diesel but others might have other solutions...

The yellow Teflon tape is used on gasoline fittings and can be purchased at any auto parts store. Generally, white sealing tape (one of the most common varieties) is used for standard plumbing applications whereas yellow Teflon™ tape is used with gas

When using teflon tape, make sure you keep it back one full thread from the end of the male fitting so pieces don't get cut off and enter the carb.

@hotajax  your comment of fuel shooting all over the place , makes me think that you are wrapping that tape on  AGAINST THE THREADS, is the tape piling up or fitting into the threads ? try a few fittings of tape , if it does not pile up , you are good , simple easy correction . make sure its snug on your wrap in , pete

I know better than that, just exaggerating a little bit about fuel shooting all over.  Coffee time humor

That sounds about right.  Thanks.
