diesel life 42 #1 Posted April 10, 2023 Ok guys, so about a year ago I posted that I was thing about building my own loader from the pf engineering plans. Well life happens and I still have not gotten around to it. I am currently replacing some warn parts on my 520h and getting ready for a loader. But in all of this I happend to find a loader for sale, the guy says he believes that its a old johnson needs some work but not a lot. He states that he has new cylinders and a bunch of new hoses for it. I would need to finish it up and build a frame for it. He is wanting $1500. My question is doea this sound reasonable? I figure if I did the pf engineering loader I would probably have close to that in it. Also I have the reese hitch on the back of the 520h from wheelhorse parts and more great hitch but do any of you know how much weight you can hang off of it? Let me know what you guys think

Go get it. ASAP. Even without the lower frame that's a screamin' deal. 4 hours ago, diesel life said: Also I have the reese hitch on the back of the 520h from wheelhorse parts and more great hitch but do any of you know how much weight you can hang off of it? Lowell would be the best one to answer that. I'm thinking I would hang 200 lbs off it without hesitation. 1

That is well worth taking a look at. 1
Pullstart 62,814 #4 Posted April 10, 2023 (edited) Yeah, that’s worth it! Some day I’ll finish the loader project that I started to finish over a year ago… https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic/68968-ark-500-loader-rebuild-on-a-522xi/?page=13&tab=comments#comment-1108566 Until then… Edited April 10, 2023 by Pullstart 2

PWL216 888 #6 Posted April 10, 2023 I have Johnson TC10 loader on my C121. I paid $1,000 for it a year ago with the subframe. The bucket metal needs some work, but it’s fine for now. I also bought the PE Engineering plans. I went thru the parts list line by line, found replacements parts for those that were no longer available, and they about $1,500 without the metal. Cylinders will cost $1,000, pump $150ish, valve $100ish and hydraulic lines are $400ish. I think you would be all in, building it yourself, at just over $2k. I’m not sure I would have paid $1,500 for mine vs building new, but then again, I knew I’d probably never get around to actually building it, and I really wanted/needed one, so…maybe 2
wallfish 16,990 #7 Posted April 11, 2023 A PF loader would exceed $2K. It's A LOT of work too. Built a PF backhoe in 2008 and that was probably $2K and the steel was scavenged. BUT, it would be brand new and you can always adapt things to your liking. Plus the satisfaction of building your own. 2 1

If I build my own I don't really know if I will have the time to get it built. My uncle has a welding shop and everything to fab one up we just don't have the time for the most part.

oliver2-44 9,714 #12 Posted April 11, 2023 @diesel life New cylinders, valve and some new hoses Quit talking to us and RUN. If it were closer I’d be meeting the seller for breakfast. 2
diesel life 42 #13 Posted April 16, 2023 Well I pulled the trigger on the loader drove the 6 hour round trip today and picked it up. He gave me a bunch of hydraulic lines the spool valve and he had a pump also. Probably gonna end up getting a new pump but we will see. So does anybody wanna share there loader frame and pump set up so I have something to go off of? I think I'm going to take the attach a mattic plate off and bolt it there then run the frame back to where the dozer blade hoks into the axle bracket. Don't know about the front yet. If you have a loader let me see your frame. 1
953 nut 55,128 #14 Posted April 16, 2023 The subframe on my loader bolts through the two holes where the Attach-A-Mattic would bolt on also. The rear saddles the rear axle from below. The front portion is bolted to the frame with two bolts on each side. 1

What hydraulic pump and set up will you be running?
wallfish 16,990 #16 Posted April 17, 2023 You will need a pump that's designed to be run by a belt side load and most are direct couple with a lovejoy. Here's the same pump from PF Eng plans and the same one I used for a back hoe. It will work either turning either direction CW or CCW so that also gives you more options for mounting it. https://www.northerntool.com/products/concentric-high-pressure-hydraulic-gear-pump-0-517-cu-in-model-g1232c5a300n00-10567#hotbar-description

diesel life 42 #22 Posted May 7, 2023 So are any of you guys with loaders running a remote spin on hydraulic filter set up? If so can I see how you have them mounted?

It's mounted on top of the transmission under the seat pan.
diesel life 42 #24 Posted June 10, 2023 So would it be better to run the hdraulic pump off a belt or I've been looking and I could take the pulley mechanism off and run a lovejoy coupler straight to the engine . If you take the pulleys off except the belt pulley the shaft would be long enough and there is a couole bolts that you could mount a bracket on to hang the pump on. Just thinking that's an option. oliver2-44 9,714 #25 Posted June 10, 2023 One of the nice things about using a belt to the PTO pulley is then the pump doesn’t have to be running all the time. On the other hand I’ve seen some direct shaft mounted on the flywheel side of a Kohler using a Kohler stub shaft that bolts to the flywheel. I woul think the same type stub shaft would be available for an Onan.
