1961 701 Performance today

I did my first oil change on my new to me 701 this morning. I hooked the plow up and headed for the garden. I was surprised at how well the little 7 horsepower Kohler did. Plowed like a champ! The only issue I encountered was a little belt slippage and a squirt of belt dressing solved that quickly. It was an incredibly fun Easter day here in eastern Iowa for me! The forecast is for temps in the 70's and 80's all week with no rain in sight until next weekend. Me and this little red gremlin that my wife has affectionately named "Betty" are gonna tear up some more ground before the week is over! Hope y'all are having a great weekend! Happy Easter also!

Be sure and put up some pictures. Us old folks read better with illustrations...

DOES EVERYTHING like a champ!

Quite likely you'll keep being pleasantly surprised by that tractor for years to come.

I know I was and continue to be.

Learn to add weights and chains when needed. Work with the machine. It'll keep impressing...

Too much belt dressing could become a problem when you want to stop and the belt wants to grab. The drive belt for your 701 is a 1/2" X 70" and should slip a bit under excessive load, time to select a lower gear. A new Kevlar belt from Tractor Supply should solve the problem.
