314-8 Running Rough Under Load

Recommended Posts

hotajax

Tractor was sitting for about 3 years, being started up every month or so just to circulate oil

Put brand new gas in it yesterday.

Started it up yesterday and actually cut grass with it.  Was running great for about 20 minutes, and then started getting rough.  Did not stall out.

I know this is most likely a fuel problem, and not ignition.

Right now, I just want to finish cutting, because the grass is long, and I don't feel like spending a lot of time doing repairs until after the first cut.

My options are to install a brand new carb I got from that guy in Maine, or to take the old carb bowl out and clean it up.

Where can I get a gasket kit for the dirty carb?

Quick fix?  Try removing the air filter housing.  Place your palm directly over the carb.  Roll the engine over a few times.  Clean the plug and giver’ a try.  The engine vacuum may be able to pull the debris through.

If that doesn’t work you may have to pull the carb, take the bowl off and check the needle and seat. Might be a piece of crap in there. Happened to me more than once.

Jim Barker.  World famous rower / coach from Philly.  Check him out on the 'net.  Thanks for the tips, gents.  Much appreciated by this tractor hack.

Thanks fellas.  It's fixed.  I did both things Pull Start said.  When I went to pull the plug, the little tip that screws on to the end of the spark plug was almost ready to fall off.  So I'm a moron, it was most likely an ignition problem because that tip was so loose.  Runs like a dream again.  Thanks. owe you guys a beer.

I've used Seafoam, I'm also partial to Marvel mystery oil, which I keep in the gas all the time.  Seems to work pretty well.

Where Biglersille?  Not around these parts, but if it's not too far, might make the run.

Thanks.  I think there's an Army Reserve center in Arendtsville, isn't there?

@hotajax your marvel mystery oil works pretty well , personally been using STA BIL fuel treatment in all my fuel for years , what ever you are doing to give you regular use , response , thats what you want . biggest thing is paying attention to how its working. the regular starting and function is what to zero in on . when you have that , its easy to get after a new issie . minimize issues . that oil also has a chemical mix that helps clean those ring glands , pete
