WheelHorseVH 107 #1 Posted April 6, 2023 Has anyone tried to repair their horsepower vacuum gauge on a 520H? Mine has the needle stuck below the lowest part (not sure how it got there) and does not move when running even those the line looks connected. I don't even know if its possible to open it up and even if I did I truly don't know what I would find inside of it. Any advice? I know most people think its sort of a nonsense gauge to begin with but there's just something about a non-working gauge that drives me a little buggy every time I see it. I'm kinda the same way so there for ya. Check the nipple on the back they frequently break off. Hose ok going to the manifold? It's pretty much just a vacuum gauge. You really can't take them apart but if it's broke yer not gonna hurt it in trying. Maybe needle just stuck? Try shaking it around to unstick it? Might be a diaphragm in it that's shot too. As many as 520s getting parted out these days maybe a good used one on fleabay or a member has one? Just thinking out loud here. WheelHorseVH 107 #3 Posted April 7, 2023 Thanks for the input. I would definitely take one off of someone’s hands if it was reasonably priced for a relatively low importance gauge. Theres one on ebay they want $85 for! For that price I will just deal with my OCD about a non working gauge.
WHX?? 49,916 #4 Posted April 8, 2023 Yep keep lookin guy... I might have one that I would let you have for way less than that. Was saving it for a rainy day but if your OCD is worse than mine who am I?
cleat 6,857 #5 Posted April 8, 2023 Might be a good time to get rid of that gauge and wire in an oil pressure gauge instead. I have toyed with the idea myself.
WheelHorseVH 107 #6 Posted April 8, 2023 Not a terrible idea @cleat @WHX?? ok well heres how bad my OCD is…I could only ever buy another vac gauge if it was from the correct year. Mine looks like the one attached. Maybe I should post this in the wanteds.

Not a bad idea. Is there a place on the motor to tap into the oil pump?Just guessing where the idiot light switch is? Edited April 8, 2023 by WHX??

I would think you could tee off where the idiot light is. According to my manual oil pressure should be around 20 PSI.
