d160 repower

Recommended Posts

hey guys i was wondering if anyone has every done a repower on a d series’s tractor i know it would be expensive but i’m willing to put a little money in to make this work my onan on the tractor does run it’s just a little finicky as i put a carb and intake from a 416 on to it …took a little modification to make it fit but it works half decent but i can’t get the original air cleaner on i did all this because the orginal carb was missing the needle for some reason and i could find one anywhere and i just want the peace of mind of a new engine like one of those twin predators or briggs

I’ve seen the predator twins used… but I am guessing someone has got to have a carb to keep yours running.  Did you try A-Z Tractor?

Aftermarket carbs are a bit of a gamble (experiences related by members are some good, some not so...) but it may be worth a try in your situation. LOTS less than a repower.

I recall that the jets on the P216 and P220 carbs differed to handle the slightly greater displacement and longer valve opening of the latter, along with a couple other differences.

B43 carb kits are plentiful on the bay and they will have a needle plus a bunch of other stuff --- dozens. Just enter B43 carb kit in search.....

But you are right in saying they ARE finiky!!!

This one is $16.50

Ultimately, the key elements of a carb are to fit on the manifold as well as the match to the displacement and air intake velocity at various RPMs to create a suitable fuel mixture over that range.

Higher displacement with a smaller bore accelerates the airflow through the carb and can sometimes cause turbulence as well as prevent it from mixing in adequate fuel.

I think you need a turbo for it!  That’ll fix it right up!

Well..... that dont exactly say B43, but from your earlier pic, that looks like it would take the square carb which is whats on the 43's.

I had one and became intimate with that dang carb, and your engine sure looks like mine. Some of the 43's had a built in fuel pump on the carb and others - like mine, had a off mount 'pulse' pump - the basic carb is the same tho.
