Beap52 811 #10 Posted April 4, 2023 (edited) We lived in Thailand for two years. We were missionaries who worked in the mission business office. We took care of travel, freight, payroll etc. Had I known of the tractor racing, I would have certainly tried to see one. Chaing Mai was a great place to live and we took a zip line while there. I pretty sure we were 80 or more feet in the air. We were assured the zip line was safe as our guide said the gear came from Australia. I tried to attach a video of my mom (who was in her late 70's at the time) rappelling but it was too large and I not computer literate enough to edit it. I did attach a "ladder" if you would call it that. It's way up in the tree and was used by the locals to install the zip line. It appears to be bamboo spikes driven through a vine. The second picture is me on the right and mom in the center. We are walking across the bridge over the river Kwai. For those of us old enough to remember there was a movie about the construction of this infamous bridge. If I remember, there were actually two bridges built. A wooden one and this one. It was pointed out that the middle sections of the bridge were squarish whereas the rest was rounded. We were told the squarish arches were replacements after bombs destroyed the originals during the war. It's probably 30 feet or so to the river below. When your cross the bridge the only safety devices are the mats of rubber draped over the beams. Who wants to fall into the river with scrapes from the steel beams at the beginning of the fall? This picture has a bluish tint because my camera was failing. We hired a private guide and driver who took us to the bridge, We visited a grave yard of POW's. We then toured a small museum , ate lunch on a floating restaurant on the river then rode a train a few miles where our driver met us.
