ML3 1,175 #1 Posted April 2, 2023 Been working on my recently acquired 654 today. Tried to install my plow off my 1984 C105. Obviously it's a long frame. I moved the rear bar as advised. The issue I'm having is that the blade won't lock into the upright position- plow frame is hitting the front axle. Also the angle control is a really tight fit with the right foot board. Will a short frame fit better? If so I'll just look for one. Hopefully it's done snowing but I do live in northeast Ohio.
wallfish 16,990 #2 Posted April 2, 2023 It's lifting too high so the lifting link between the rock shaft and the plow frame is too short. If it's chain use the next link and so on until it lifts and fits. Maybe some pictures would help
ML3 1,175 #3 Posted April 2, 2023 I'll try to get some pics. I've been out in garage all day. I'm tired & sore so I'm calling it a night. Getting too old to be crawling, bending, etc! All day have for lift is chain as the bar I use on C105 won't work- it's too short. Maybe my chain is too short?? Should there be any slack in the chain when it's up or down? On the lift arm I see there's a hole above the rear hitch cable & 2 holes towards the front.

It's best to measure that connection distance or connect a chain with the handle up and locked, then lift and jack or block the plow frame up into the best lifted position. Measure that distance for a solid link or connect the chain. Now you know for sure the handle can be positioned to locked. When lowered the blade will float with the ground terrain as it changes. 1 hour ago, mjl111070@yahoo.com said: Getting too old to be crawling, bending, etc! I hear ya! I can get down there but have trouble getting up now. My joints are getting terrible and it's coming on quick too
ML3 1,175 #5 Posted April 2, 2023 I was kinda thinking what you suggested. Thanks. I'll probably be at it tomorrow again.
ML3 1,175 #6 Posted April 2, 2023 Got the plow figured out. So far it looks like tractor has only needed a bunch of minor things. 🤞 Got it running great Still need to figure hitch out. I will order the cable (broken) but I gotta figure a work around the lift. I intend to keep plow on all the time. However, every time I raise plow it will raise the hitch??? I intend to use tractor mostly for pulling a small trailer so I may just fix hitch stationary. Cleaning up the drive/clutch pulleys did seem to help the harsh engagement although they didn't appear to be all that bad.

Yep, there is only one “lifter” in the tractor and different implements connect to it in different ways. On the lifter shaft that crosses inside the tractor (called the Rock Shaft) there are two arms. One extends forward for lifting most attachments including front blades. The other extends downward for snow blowers and the rear lift cable. Each arm has holes along their length. ML3 1,175 #8 Posted April 4, 2023 I figured that out. I want to be able to use rear hitch sometimes & have it movable. I'm going to order the cable & install it. I can disconnect it if I don't want hitch to move. I attached a chain to hitch & secured to to plow mount so now hitch is level. So far it works but maybe I'll figure out a better method. Made a receiver w/2" ball to fit in sleeve.

Depending on the tongue weight you want the hitch to handle, you might consider a cross-brace linking the rear arms of the plow frame that fits under whatever implement is in the slot hitch. ML3 1,175 #10 Posted April 4, 2023 I will figure out something like you said regarding cross bracing etc?? For most part all I'll probably be pulling is a garden cart or possibly my aluminum snowmobile trailer which is really lightweight. I want to figure out a 2" box receiver (but still be able to utilize slot hitch) so I can use my drawbars to get different heights depending on what trailer I'm pulling. My nephew is a welder/fabricator. Saw a couple box hitches on eBay as well
