Pullstart 62,883 #51 Posted June 4, 2023 Thanks @davem1111! There will be a Honda or clone of some sort on it, I have a couple 6.5 hp options to choose from. I believe the truck axle has a 3.73:1 ratio ring and pinion in it. I was going to use a go-kart clutch and a couple sprockets for power transmission, but realized I have enough stuff I could reduce the speed even more by adding the transmission. I then thought to use the brake shaft to drive it, but decided again to use a hub to drive a pulley. Locking the other axle/hub down to prevent it spinning might work the differential harder than normal and double the left side hub’s output speed, but at the end of the day this transmission will likely see much less work in this than machine anywhere else on the farm. Very cool. Yeah, I'm guessing that most of the time you'll only be moving it a short distance every few days or so. So you use the hand winch to raise the frame off the ground before moving it? Seems like hydraulics might be a handy way to do that but I guess that's overkill. Wish we'd had something like this when we had chickens. The most we had was about 16 birds so a much smaller one would have done the trick. Could have put a hitch on the front of a WH and used the PTO to lift it, or the winch I made a mule-mount for... it's fun thinking up new ideas. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Just the length of the structure each day, if possible, is all it will need to move. I thought of hydraulics, but then I remembered I had this super heavy winch and even it is overkill. An extra jack shaft to lock the axles maybe? Not sure what you got for sprockets or chain hanging around. Pullstart 62,883 #70 Posted June 5, 2023 Oh. My. It’s pretty fast! Maybe it needs an 8 speed! A second belt from the trans to the truck pinion made the grip a huge improvement. The belt needs more guard / guides. It is the most funky feeling rocking on a leaf sprung sideways axle zooming a 30’ structure sideways! Somehow the black hood plastic fender got a big crack in it and some duct tape, so @SylvanLakeWH sorry to say it wasn’t sacred here! It got trimmed and mounted. I need steering, and I need it fast!
