60’s Choke and Throttle Cables

Looking to get new choke and throttle cables for our 68 raider build.  Obviously takes the round knob pull style with throttle lock. I see several online in various price ranges. Price doesn’t necessarily concern me as much as quality.  I saw some posts on here from several years ago and the consensus was most aftermarket ones weren’t worth messing with. Are they still this way today and if so what brand do you all recommend ?

One option, although not an exact copy, is to use repro choke & throttle cables for a WWII Jeep. They look the same, the throttle does not lock unfortunately.

I bought mine from eBay for my 1257. Works good so far. Usually come longer so you cut to length.

I get replacement cables at the show. Not cheap and you may have to trim them but they work great. I think you can still get them from Toro. Part #'s Throttle 102119 choke 102118. Vendor is Dave's Small engine Pottsville Pa 717 544 8320

I ordered 4 throttle cables from them recently. Pricing is excellent. 

   They seem good. Time will tell. 

 

Trina's tractors aren't restorations that need to look correct so  I ordered less expensive  black knobbed pull cables for the chokes from a different place.

I also make my cables a tad long. They seem to work better when they have a little give to them.

I do the same.  

There's a fair difference in ease of operation when you take a little sharpness of the  arc out of the cable.

The lengths are in this thread. I tuck the extra conduit under the hood.

Not for what you need Tony but while we're on the subject. 

@Achto scored some sheath and inner cable off fleabay or the jungle for his 953 resto.

This stuff is the cats meow. The sheath has a plastic or nylon inner core that lets the wire slide slicker than snot on a door knob!

The 1054 I just picked up from @Shynon had orginals on it that were terrible so i replaced and rerouted with it. Wow what a difference. 

It should work on any lever style that you can open up the clamp on at the lever.

Sheath cuts easy with a cut off wheel & wire forms nice with z bend pliers. 

It came in a 50 ft roll of sheath and 100 ft roof of wire so enough to do the whole herd.

Plenty for many more... I told Joel to say he didn't bring it over so I have no idea where it went...  

I'd like to finger out how one could use it on knob style cables.

BTW @Tonytoro416 I have used the ones from pats and the ones off fleabay and they were all the same quality & by Stens. 

The big thing is lube the inner wire before you put the z bend on. Maybe the stuff suggested by greasy pete. Don't use anti seize like I did. I thought it would be the answer but it interferes with the locking system on the throttle.
