Gary S Minnesota 51 #1 Posted March 30, 2023 Picked up an original Wheel Horse brand front mount generator unit, the smaller 3000 watt. 2 ea 120V outlets. It is complete with lift bar, flag and drive belt. Very nice paint and decal etc. also has the volt meter gauge. Came as part of a 520H package I purchased. Any suggestion as to what a fair selling price would be?

Any suggestion as to what a fair selling price would be? I've seen the 3KW go for as little as $200, but complete and working I'd expect more. The light and reliable little Honda portables sort of hurt the market for these, but the old tech has a following and these are getting hard to find. I dunno, start the bidding at $500 and see what happens? FWIW, I never thought these made sense on a hydro tractor, as you end up leaving it running unattended and what happens if the hyrdo starts to creep and move? Also way mismatched power-wise on a 520, the 3KW would make more sense on a 308 or 310.
Gary S Minnesota 51 #4 Posted March 30, 2023 Agree on the power issue. If I keep it I will mount it on my 314-8 for when I need some short term electricity away from the buildings. Will try to post some photos later today.
Gary S Minnesota 51 #5 Posted March 31, 2023 Mounted the generator on the 314-8 today. Seems to work just fine! 1

Disengage the hydro pump drive (and set the parking brake at the same time if it is a Sunstrand)???

In my experience, the parking brake won't hold back a hydro, and not all models have a provision to disengage. The 520 might, I am not familiar enough with all possible versions of it. The parking brake does hold the motion control in neutral, but that’s only as good as how well its been adjusted to eliminate creep!
