Racinbob 11,070 #27 Posted March 28, 2023 I've likely fought my last tube. For a few years now I've taken the lazy way out and used this stuff. I do know that it works like a charm. It's supposed to be easy to clean off the rim should the need occur but I don't know that first hand. I didnt realise I would start a 'marathon' post with a little comment about inner tubes As usual, there can be several reasons/solutions to add a tube to the tire ---- For instance my situation was that there really wasnt any other solution.... I got the tractor as a ... bonus? with the purchase of another tractor and it had just sat around here - with flats on 2 tires until wanting something to do, I decided to see if I could 'revive' it. Well, on this one little 6" the tire had been loose from the rim edges for ...a LONG time. Being tubeless there was no way I would be able to not use a tube to get it back against the rim. Even with being flat for so long it was still in pretty good condition with relatively little sidewall cracking -- plus, I wasnt gonna pump a lot of money in an unknown project! 3 hours ago, ri702bill said: the difference between the old and the new. @ri702bill is sure correct here - I'm sure many of you older guys remember using inner tubes to take to the swimming hole (skinny dipping!) ... we would even 'borrow' Dads fishing boat and use it for a version of 'water skiing' and those old tubes were so tough they'd last thru a couple summers. 1 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Sometimes - you can get a tire with the bead off both sides of the rim back into good enough shape to reinflate it using a ratchet strap or rope with a stick as a windlass round the middle of the tire... sometimes..! 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

So, I went back to the jungle and read thru the MANY tube listings - most the same brand that I had ordered! But, on down the list I saw a few different brands - all from China, of course - but I picked 2 more out and ordered, They arrived yesterday and I promptly aired one on the bench to about 15psi and it stayed nice and round for some 10 mins, so I put it in the tire and ----- Success!!! 5 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

That tube must have expanded way beyond its design limit. I would never put more air in a tube that is outside of the tire than just rounding it out. If you think that tractor tubes are bad, try finding one for a bicycle. I have tried major brands and some that you never heard of, and none would hold reasonable pressure for a week. I inquired at a local bike shop that sells high end bikes and he said that none will do what I want. It is no wonder that Slime is offered for sale right next to the tubes. On one of the previous tubes I did a "bench test" and it didnt even get rounded out when it came apart. Also, if you read in one of the previous post about using tubes at the swimming hole when we/I we were kids would air a tube to 3-4 times its listed size - a good tube will handle that. That was about 3 months ago and still holding air. Sorry to hear so many Wheel Horse folks having tire/tube troubles.
