Tire inner tube frustration!!

So I have a 6" tubeless tire that like they do all to often do - not hold air. As I'm sure many of you, like me simply put a tube in one and - problem solved.... right??

 

So I run down to the TSC store just couple miles and pick up a 15$ tube, put it in the tire and start to air it up and ... nothing??? Open back up and ... whoa! the tube had split all around the seam! Take it back, get manager and show him and ask has he had any other fails. He says no, but we will replace it, no prob - no thanks, I dont want to get another and have the same thing happen.

 

Come back home and pull up the jungle site and find about a gazillion tubes, pick a pair out at random (they all had the same logo on them) and they get here in 2 days and I install one right away and tire airs up, put 15psi in and prepare to mount it ----- its flat!! Say What??? Open it back up and same thing tube torn like cut with a razor. Take its mate and with it just laying on the bench it barely inflates and 'pop' and literally comes apart in pieces! Three tubes and this is the result - see pic.

 

Obviously I'm sending them back to Amazon this morn - they're great at taking returns.

 

So .... where and how am I gonna be able to get a tube that wont come apart!!  Any you guys had a problem like this?? Guess I will hit a couple parts houses when I take the returns in. Taking a 6" tire off isnt as bad as one of the bigger ones, but still, aint much fun!

That's what we are stuck with, overseas junk now days.Local tire shop MAY HAVE better quality tubes. Bob

That really sucks.  I've ordered my last couple sets off Amazon.  The ones I have got are called AR-Pro.  They have been fine so far.

And that is why I inflate the tube to 6 psi, right out of the box. Let it sit for a few days - see if it holds air....... if good, deflate & install. Use LOTS of talcum powder in the tire & on the tube - lets it wiggle into position as you slowly inflate it.....rather than pinch and fail. Six inch rim - a true PITA to dismount and mount....12 inchers are a lot easier.

Another reason to let the tire store deal with it. If it blows when they install it it's their problem. Call me when it's done.

Stopped by a couple tire stores and they said would need to order - ask how long, -- 10/12 days!!

I know many of you like to do your own tires, but for 20 or 30 dollars each I had new tires mounted on my rims by a tire company nearby.  Price included the tires.  Easy as pie and they stay inflated.

Haven't seen this yet, i do about 4 tubes a month...reluctantly.  since i started using Flat Out sealant i havent had to deal with any flats on my stuff.

 

Firestone tubes are primo..but almost as much as a tire.

 

My 15x6.00x6.00 Vredsteins on old rusty wheels have been untouched since 2021 after i split a bottle of Flat Out between them

Curious, what does that stuff do to the rims? or do you just use in tubes?

 

Wondering if it would benefit rim leaks on rusty rims...?

My rims were so rusted that the air was leaking an the inner portion of the wheel, pin holes in the steel..as well as the beads.  A tube wouldn't work because of the edges. It sealed it up.  

 

It stays liquid, ive demounted tires its been in for many years and its still just as thin ans loose as the day i put it in.

Took a set of 6-12s to my local guy just to have loaded tires unmounted.  I knew it would be a nasty job thats why I didn't do it.  He says stop back tomorrow. A week later still sitting ther. I says dude... I really need them rims. So he does it while I watch and he was drenched in nasty. He charged me 20 and I felt guilty so got some new tubes from him to the tune of 30 apiece...  So much for the budget on this resto.

Another one here... took a set of 6 ply skid steer tires to another shop to have them mounted on fresh painted rims for the 1055. 

They charged me $10.45 with tax and even used those show metal stems included!

I thought why would I mess with them for that kinda coin. Best part not a scratch on the rims! 

I flipped a extra Hamilton to the tech. 

Next time for set of Tru Powers they charged me 40... WTF??

Similar, except it doesn't thicken like slime nor use shredded rubber bits like slime...honestly ive never seen slime actually work.

 

It uses Kevlar and similar threads that plug a hole or leak..and plugs future leaks as they occur.

I have had good luck with inner tubes from Ace hardware. Not cheap but seem to hold up well. Have even been known to patch the old ones coming out of some old tires......the rubber was so much better
