WheelHorse_Kid 355 #1 Posted March 26, 2023 (edited) Today I started taking my 604 apart so that I can repaint it and put new stickers on it. Since I used it to plow it has earned its time to be a nice restored tractor and I can use a different one to work with. I can’t wait to see it all nice next to my dads 603. This is my only round hood and I like the round hoods. Edited March 27, 2023 by WheelHorse_Kid 5 12
WHGuy413 2,683 #2 Posted March 26, 2023 What he didn’t say is he is going to do a frame up rebuild with as little help from me as he can. We already have done new electronics in the engine, flushed and inspected the transmission and made sure everything is mechanically sound. He used it for a year around the house doing every chore he could imagine with it. The plan is he will clean every piece down to bare metal and I will teach him how to paint and assist him. He will do the rest. Every nut and bolt will be changed out. Cannot wait to see him rebuild this awesome little tractor. 4 9
ri702bill 8,317 #3 Posted March 26, 2023 (edited) Now is a good time to check for excess play in all the steering components - axle pivot, axle spindle bores, spindles, lower steering support, and tierods. All are repairable except the tierods - a new pair of adjustable ones with Heim Joints on the ends is the hot ticket... Also check the frame for TWO things - stress cracks around the four Unidrive mounting holes and excess play in the clutch cross shaft where it goes thru the frame - no bushings there..... Both are repairable. I have addressed all the above with my 502 build..... Bill Edited March 26, 2023 by ri702bill 3

squonk 41,094 #6 Posted March 26, 2023 I grew up on a 604. Went thru 4 Teckys in 13 years. Did a lot of mowing and snowplowing. Luv the rear weights!

WheelHorse_Kid 355 #11 Posted March 28, 2023 Today I took the dash panel, throttle cable, belt, and the gas tank off of my 604.It is now just a rolling frame with an engine. 4

Takes the turning radius down from that of your Schoolbus to that of the Pickup.... Toss in the adjustable lift stop - perfect for lifting the plowblade just a tad off the ground - winner, winner..
WheelHorse_Kid 355 #14 Posted April 5, 2023 I took off the rest that needed to be taken off and my dad helped me separate the frame and transmission. Now me need to put some paint stripper and get off as much paint as possible. 10

peter lena 8,620 #18 Posted April 5, 2023 @ wheel horse - kid , might also think about replacing that drive belt IDLER PULLEY , tractor supply has them in stock with a larger bearing , get the size to size bronze bushing for a bolt on fit . if you were to , clean out and re grease that with lucas red grease , probably never touch it again ,lubricate all related linkage , so its smooth / solid , pete

It’s all spray paint from what I can tell. So should be able to get it to come off fairly easy. Famous last words.

You'll be SHOCKED how easily the paint comes off unless it's right near a heat source like the exhaust.
WheelHorse_Kid 355 #21 Posted May 8, 2023 My dads friend told us we could use his sand blaster to get the paint off of the parts. It saved us a lot of time.We are trying to get it ready for a show in Bernardston may 27 to the may 28. 2 11

WHGuy413 2,683 #23 Posted May 17, 2023 Can’t wait for you all to see it when it’s done. He has put tons of time into cleaning parts. Almost to the reassembly part of the project. He’s on a field trip with school til tomorrow so I’ve been in the garage the last 2 nights alone making sure things were squared away so once we have the final pieces ready he can go to town assembling it. I’m going to let him be the one to share pictures.
WheelHorse_Kid 355 #24 Posted May 22, 2023 I’ve been working really hard to get the pieces clean so my dad can paint them. Today I started putting it together. I put a lot of the pieces on today. I am trying to get it done before the twenty fifth because of a tractor show in Bernardston. 8 1
