Ya know.... It occurred to me the other day I've been to your place twice and not had tractors either time.

I mentioned this to Trina and the fact that this Honda would give us the ability to get tractors AND camping gear down there and her face lit up..

Trina's Pilot had a shimmy around 60 to 72 mph. Very slight but noticeable at slower speeds.
The dealership removed at least two tires and spun them slightly. Balanced again on Road Force Variation and it's better.

 

 

She had a good friend of ours do a fine-tooth comb check over.

While they were under the vehicle poking around they found some areas of surface corrosion that she's going to take care of immediately.

Based on the comments in this thread she and I did some poking around on the interwebs about what to use for an underbody coating.

 

Our friend uses and recommends a variant of fluid film which I believe was also mentioned above here somewhere.

Trina ordered a six pack of that in a spray form and it will be applied soon as possible.

The Pilot Wheelhorse tugger is all legal and registered up. 

Trina applied the Fluid Film.  

 

The vehicle side trailer harness plug was melted.  

 

 

I got a replacement including about 10" of wire. 

Fixed that this evening.  

 

 

 

 

She's already gone n got a set-up started for camping gear.

I did all the glass work for a Honda dealership for many years and they make a great vehicle!! 

 

Almost all of the mechanics drove hondas, some with a crap load of miles on them!!

The "lady" next door has a 90,000 mile Pilot that had the transmission replaced.  Before the work was done, I asked which component failed, she said the transmission.  I again asked about the failure; was it the torque converter, a solenoid, a gear or what.  She said I told you it was the transmission.  Whatever.

Mostly packed up for the camping season ahead. 

 

 

 

All of the above along with a few blankets will live in this vehicle for the next few months.  

 

 

She started putting some decorations on the side of it as well...

As reliable as Honda’s are, they have had some transmission troubles in recent years. It doesn’t appear to be widespread, but it’s not unheard of. 
 

Until the recent 9-speed (ZF) and 10-speed (Honda), Honda automatics have been more similar to an automated, sliding-gear transmission than a more conventional planetary automatic used by just about everyone else.  Since they are unique, there are few places that work on them and the standard repair is to just swap out the entire transmission.  
 

if she had it done at the dealership they may not have even told her what was wrong with it.  
 

Honda also uses their own proprietary and genuinely unique transmission fluid in these things since they are a little out of the ordinary.  And the transmissions appear to have higher operating temperatures than normal automatics. 
 

On the plus side, Honda makes draining and filling them with new fluid easy with drain and fill plugs easily accessed.  In fact, it’s easier to do a dump and fill

on them than on the engines in the same car. 
 

I’m not sure how it happened, but I’ve become a Honda nut.  My truck, my wife’s van, my boat motor, my lawnmower, my generator, my pressure washer, and my little tiller are all Hondas.  I guess it may be time to talk my wife into the Honda Jet to complete the run.

I've owned 6 Honda motorcycles and have loved them all, except the Shadow 750, but only because I don't care for the cruiser seating position with your feet out in front.  CB-450, CB-750 Silverwing GL-500, Goldwing GL-1200, the Shadow, and an ST-1300 that I still have today. Very reliable, low maintenance, etc. I did also have 2 Yamaha's and they were decent but I'd take the Honda's first any day.  And I have become attached to the Honda GX610 engine in my Work Horse 1848. Hard to go wrong with a Honda. My wife had a Honda minivan for about 20 years before the trans went on it. Even then it was a tough decision to not fix it and let it go.

The transmission diagnosis was done at a local garage that specialized in ten minute oil changes.  They recently hung out a Jasper engine & transmission sign.  I tried to caution her but she was having none of it.
