Trina got herself a 2012 Honda Pilot.  

Huge volumes of space for camping gear and it can tow over 4K. 

We're looking forward to putting it to great use this year!!

 

She's decided that the Pilot shall have the Wheelhorse keychain because it'll be the official Wheelhorse goes to shows puller.

@ebinmaine  TRINA  did well , hope you take advantage of its condition , have access to a lift? cans of aerosol , open gear cable and chain spray , in and on underside , wheel well arches , inside doors , every body seam . that would  show itself in days to  coverage protection . an oil slick on a seam and at the bottom of door edge seams is showing you  rust protection . go oily, pete

No lift access but we have a decent jack and stands.  

 

We're going to buy a waste oil sprayer for use in this and other vehicles.

I prefer to use spray on Fluid Film (yeah, I know it violates financial rule 1B - you already got the drain oil, why not dispose of it "usefully" (properly) ??? And they do not exactly give the FF away, either..

Waste oil can have acids which can do as much harm than good. If you have a Krown rustproofing franchise near you I would go that route. Their spray is very close to Fluid Film. They can do a lot better job and you don't get covered with crap. I've rustproof cars on a lift and on the ground and there is no comparison

That's a good looking vehicle!   Probably bring a smile to the annual personal property tax--at least it would here in MO.

 

Here a couple pictures of my 1992 GMC K2500.   It's rust free--in part that the previous owner and I try not to drive on salt treated roads and I spend as much time washing the underside as I do the topside.  I also believe that the Penetrol I use to coat underside with every couple of years also helps.  I spray up inside the fenders and the frame and pop out the plugs to spray the rockers and doors.  One of the other things I did  was use the wax rings that seal toilets to the sewer pipes.  I used the wax to seal the seam in the rear wheel opening hoping to prevent salty water intrusion from tires sending spray on them.   The first picture is the passenger side frame right behind the front wheel.  The other is the floor pan and rocker on the passenger side.  This truck has 224,000 miles and 31 years old.   I also spray our 71 El Camino and 47 Chevrolet sedan delivery with Penetrol.  Penetrol is an additive for oil base paint to help it flow better.  It's linseed oil based product and I was told years ago that folks used it for rust prevention--now I do.

@Beap52 totally agree with the linseed oil , that has a creep / penetrating factor thats vital. been using lubriplate fluids for years , especially  open gear spray as a finish after , using chain / cable spray first as the base / creeper lubricant . the cost to day is nuts , used to be  $ 2  a can , had a lot of it , your side under rail , shows good results . my son does his cars every year in vermont . from what I  have seen on newer trucks , for rust / rot , its scary . stay after your stuff , if you want too,  tyvek paper suit , pete

LOTS  of information, opinions and anecdotal evidence about spray oils on vehicles on the forums. Both for and against as one can imagine.  

 

One other path I've seen is to use an inexpensive spray penetrating oil and apply 2 to 4 times per year.

Could be an interresting conversation at the Honda Dealer if you folks did the used motor oil thing and there was a recall.
