How do I value this flywheel engine?

1932 Fairbanks Morse ZC3.

As seen in the video I've had it running 2 years ago. It's set still since.

How much is this little beast worth??

The folks at Zagray Farm would be a good resource for valuing that.

Agreed but I don't want to transport it unless valued and sold.

In running condition I would say $800 - $1000. Maybe as high as $1200 to the right buyer. This is just a guess from wondering around at flee markets.

@Stepney  Would be the guy to talk with. He may just answer your call or message. Worth a try.

The thing is pretty awesome and I like it and all that but I just have no use for it whatsoever other than looking at it...

Well - it's like geriatric underwear - it DEPENDS - could just not help myself there...  All stems around condition. functionality, collectability, ease of locating service parts - or not... Also pivots on just what someone else is willing to break loose with for cash....

You gotta get creative. That's what most of the guys who own them do at shows. Hook up a pump and pump some water. I've seen them powering fans on a hot day. Turning a BBQ spit. But my favorite one was a guy rigged one up like one of those carnival feats of strength where you ring the bell. He had a beer can on a pole so when the engine fired the can would fly up the pole and hit a bell. another good one was a guy built a mini merry go round and he had it powered by one of those engines.

I've seen those engines in non running condition go for 4-600 bucks

Check their website. There is an on-site club of folks that maintain a lot of make-n-breaks and similar oldies. May have an email address!

One other purpose for them at shows.

If you were a single guy, they can also be used as a geezer's chick magnet. Some women, (the good ones any way) are fascinated by them.  :thumbs2:

I always loved the sound of those engines. Thought about getting one just to have it outside working when I am out there. Just for the sound of it.

I hear ya Cas... one of the best sounds at shows... EB'S '32 has a pretty steady beat rather than the chug chug chug chug bang most H N M's have.

That's the pain EB... most are pretty heavy and a pain to haul to shows. Even with a nice custom oak carriage they take up real estate on the load. Plenty of guys still do it tho... bigger ones than that too!

Ain't that what the :wh:'s are for...? :confusion-confused:

@ebinmaine That thing is cool but i would fear for my life if that ended up in the garage next to the :wh:'s...

I love looking at stuff.  Sometimes when I go out to my old barn I just stand there and see what I can see.  Sometimes I see things I haven’t seen in years lol.

If it wasn't 3900 miles round trip I'd be in the truck already  I'd hate to see the bill for diesel in the old F350 to make that trip . It is a sweet running little engine though, hope you can find a good home for it.

That steady beat comes from it being a Throttle governed engine like my International LB rather than a true hit and miss. The hit and miss engines are one of the sweetest sounds at any show, but a lot of the old throttlers have a pretty good sound to them as well. Another plus to them is the cost, they're usually a much cheaper way for a guy to get into the antique engine hobby.

Bryce.  You’re figuring all wrong!  The diesel only has to run there.  The hit n miss can run you home!  :greetings-clapyellow:
