Horse Newbie 7,069 #1 Posted March 18, 2023 The squirrel must have come back… Was gonna run to the store to get some gas for the tractors and decided to check the oil in the truck first… And look what I found… This time they had chewed some wires ! Can you guys tell me ?… Does this look like a air bag sensor ? I don’t know what it is. Time to thin the squirrel population around here… 1 1
Horse Newbie 7,069 #2 Posted March 18, 2023 So I tore out the squirrel nest, stripped the wires back, soldered new wires in, shrink wrapped, taped up, remounted… Maybe an hour. I need to get to Academy Sports…
Rick3478 428 #3 Posted March 18, 2023 Don't know what kind of squirrels you have there, ours nest mostly in the trees. We do have chipmunks and mice that have been known to do like that. I can understand them chewing insulation, if it's been processed with soy oil, but I've been amazed to find that they eat copper, specifically a couple inches of spark wire on my 312-8. Mama cat with about six hungry kittens to feed will take care of your rodent problem in pretty short order. Of course then you have cats, but at least they don't chew on wiring.
Horse Newbie 7,069 #4 Posted March 18, 2023 Our neighbors cat is around often… I guess he doesn’t deter the squirrels… 1

SylvanLakeWH 25,535 #6 Posted March 18, 2023 I heard tell of "a guy" who live trapped oh, approximaxactly 17 squirrels and about 23 chips... (was a major nest in garage... ) "Relocated" them... I hear that a dab of peanut butter (Jif) and one whole peanut (Kirkland salted) stuck upright in the peanut butter works really well for bait... Hhhmmm...
Achto 27,565 #7 Posted March 18, 2023 Squirrels??? Oh !!, you mean Tree Rats. The lil red ones are the worst. There have been wars waged against them in my yard a few times.

Rob J. 1,941 #9 Posted March 18, 2023 I’ve switched to a Ruger 10/22 takedown Charger pistol with a can. Much more accurate and just as quite as my air gun. 😬

Horse Newbie 7,069 #13 Posted March 19, 2023 My cousin used to live trap squirrels in cages… then someone “ratted” on him and the wildlife people got all over him. He would submerge the cage in a tub of water and drown them. He said sometimes they would tear their faces to shreds trying to get out of the cage, and that’s before they took a dunk…
WHX?? 48,814 #14 Posted March 19, 2023 Is that a daily driver? That's weird that they would do that in one. Something about a spinning fan they don't like. 2

Handy Don 12,213 #17 Posted March 20, 2023 Good friend declared chipmunks and squirrels as “rats with good PR” -- as in “they’re so cute”. I could do without them, I think.
