Pullstart 62,888 #1 Posted March 17, 2023 My buddy still has this ‘64 GMC 6000 grain hauler he told me to come get. I’ve wanted to dig a pond for some time. Why aren’t there dump trucks with drag lines? Stability? Cost or dedication? Imagine being able to dig ponds or the like and haul the machine and haul the payload away. I imagine I wouldn’t be able to dump a full load of dirt like it were grain or corn. I feel like being a dual rear axle truck it would be able to haul the load. Hey @ebinmaine told you I’m killing time! 1

ebinmaine 67,508 #3 Posted March 17, 2023 I like the idea in principle but basically what it comes down to is, too much weight. You can either haul the machine OR the load. But not both. 3

It supposedly ran not long ago, but the batteries were dead. I need to bring the bus batteries and some fuel there one day and fire it up! He’s owned the farm two years plus or minus and they parked it in the lean to barn when they bought the place.

It might be a lost cause and worth it’s price of admission in parts.
ebinmaine 67,508 #8 Posted March 17, 2023 A "mini" on the machine side and the truck carrying capacity being full sized just might work.

Of course, it did work. Amazed how long it took for some of the debris to fall back down, even recognizing that the film playback was a bit slow motion. ri702bill 8,323 #11 Posted March 17, 2023 (edited) I'm sorry - NOT - time for the Kevin Factor....GVW of truck, minus load of WET dirt, minus weight of digger, equals MINUS capacity... X the Kevin Factor - good to go!!! at least a short distance..... in first gear,,,,, Edited March 17, 2023 by ri702bill 1
elcamino/wheelhorse 9,299 #12 Posted March 17, 2023 Wet dirt equals mud. Kev could get his weekly mud bath quicker. 1

oliver2-44 9,753 #15 Posted March 18, 2023 (edited) Mount the backhoe on a trailer so it’s a towable unit. I’m Then mount a hydraulic pump on to the grain trucks PTO to power the backhoe When you get that figured out, I need a design for a “grubber” to grub mesquites at the farm. Debating if it will be a backhoe or loader modified grubber Edited March 18, 2023 by oliver2-44 1

The PO used the hoe to push and pull the tractor into place. I thought about taking the front axle off and mounting another set of outriggers and a hitch to it. SylvanLakeWH 25,561 #19 Posted March 18, 2023 (edited) Ok... Please... Suggesting use of atomic bombs in one of @Pullstart's threads??? Really? I am 2 1/2 hours down wind of him... And he is probably already in his chicken coop thinking through a reactor design using chicken poop, an old bus, three ounces of Wheel Horse bourbon and the remnants of a snowmobile...
