Photo improvement

We love photos.  Most of what we post are of a utilitarian nature.  The hitch we made, the new tractor in the barn etc.  Then there are the more artistic ones we try to create.  Most of us are PHD photographers.  "Push Here Dummy" with our phones.  Many of us have phenomenal mechanical skills that I envy.  Perhaps there are some that have some artistic photography skills that we can learn from.

 

Is anyone interested in pursuing this topic?

That is soooo me.  

 

 

Trina is definitely known as our local picture taker. 

I do get a decent snap pic once in a while... Then she'll do the slightest little adjustment and make it ... Better.

I can't take picture without my finger being in the way.... or I suck at photography. I can't even use a phone without either screwing up the picture or the phone

No matter how you take your pictures, PLEASE look at them before you post them. If they are blurry, take another picture. The only thing worse than no picture at all is one that is blurry.

There is a lot of useful info on basic photo manipulation using phone apps. Among the most useful:

- cropping off unneeded parts of the image (make smaller, speedier uploads, less space used on phone and forum server)

- brightening too dark areas and darkening too light ones

 

Another, slightly harder to do step is to reduce the number of dots (pixels) that make up the image. The Forum likes to have images that are 1024 dots on the longest side and use about one megabyte. Lots of phone images use 3,000, 4,000, or even 5,000 dots--as much as 12 megabytes. 

 

A really helpful reminder? When quoting a post with images, you can drag your mouse over the quoted images and then delete the ones you don’t need (or double-click on them and use the resize option). Or even better, select only the text you need to quote and click on the “quote selection” button that the Forum shows you!

If using Windows you can navigate to the file that contains your photos and then right click on the file name.  There should be a Rezise Pictures option.  Simple to use.  I am not a user of Apple products so I cannot assist there.

Another ridiculously simple trick I tripped over with Trina.  

 

If I take and post a pic it's full size. 

If. ~she~ takes the pic and TEXTS it to my phone.. then I post it .. the resolution is still very good and it's MUCH smaller in file size.  

They load faster. Post faster. Look just as good.
