I looked over the machine pretty thorough when I was there and all I saw was white and patina. Absolutely could have been "de-redded". My other half and I have done 4 full frame off nut n bolt restorations so far. Most of the paint is stripped when we do. It is possible someone wanted no red below the white to affect a certain effect.
ericforster 69 #27 Posted March 9, 2023 So the question remains, why is it white? Is it a special edition? When did it recieve its white coat? The seller says it came from the factory that way.

ebinmaine 67,462 #30 Posted March 9, 2023 I'm fairly new the whole Wheelhorse world. Spring 2017 I think? I haven't heard of any special edition being any colors... Perhaps some of the long time collectors with older knowledge could jump in. @c-series don @pfrederi @squonk @Pullstart @kpinnc @JCM You folks have any thoughts here? Or someone else who would? Would the IDtag that I posted have any info to help figure this out?

White overspray on the ID tag, which is aluminum so it won't rust. Notice if you look close, the black print of the ID is visible in the top left corner. I'd also bet if you drill those rivets and pull off the tag you'll find a bright red rectangle. 5

It looked to me like it was an aged tag as its not just one area but multiple areas throughout. I mean it is 58 years old. Its nothing special then, other than it is a 58 year old wheelhorse.
pacer 3,169 #37 Posted March 9, 2023 (edited) I think there is a lot of room for doubt, theres a lot of knowledge here and so far no one has heard of the white as factory. Also, as @ebinmaine points out --- When I do a DEEP resto I sandblast all parts and there is - for all practical purposes - little to no red left. And .... I also remove/replace the id plate! CasualObserver 3,408 #38 Posted March 9, 2023 3 minutes ago, ericforster said: Is that overspray? Yes, that's why there is white paint on the right rivet and a little on the bottom of the left. If it were factory, it would have been painted before the tag was installed. Rivets would be clean. Original tractors were painted before the engines were installed, which came red from Kohler. Some models weren't identifiable until the engine and model tag or decals were installed based on what order came down the line. 2

If it makes you feel better thinking the previous owner KNOWS it came from the factory with white paint I'm not not going to burst your bubble. I wasn't there to confirm or deny what they said. You may want to have them give you a notarized certificate of authenticity that states it left the factory in white paint. That won't convince anyone but it would be a great conversation point. 1

BTW @ericforster Here in the Herd of EB & BBT we have several odd colors. Cinnamon Horse. BRIGHT red on 2 different tractors. And the awesome Military Tribute Tractor "Millie". 1

WHX?? 48,815 #48 Posted March 10, 2023 875 is a candidate for a bucket lister ... first year for Wheelamatic. Personally I would go 150 on it maybe a tad more if the parts are Kohler. No way would I resto it ... way too much character goin on ther. 2 hours ago, kpinnc said: Odd how the headlight area has been cut. Not really KP I have alot of them come thru like that. Looks somewhat factory suggesting a hood swap? Maybe not. 2 hours ago, ericforster said: I am a small engine mechanic. Stick around we could use you... Achto 27,570 #49 Posted March 10, 2023 2 hours ago, ericforster said: So the question remains, why is it white? Is it a special edition? At best I would say that it is a dealer repaint. Why??? I have no idea. I do see that the gas tank & starter/gen are still red. Be interesting to see what color the engine is. Depending on the quality of the job done would determine if you find old paint. When I do a resto or repaint all of the original paint is removed so I can start with bare metal. If I acquired this tractor I would sand a spot on the inside of the hood to see if red paint is reviled.
OldWorkHorse 3,045 #50 Posted March 10, 2023 Pretty good repaint job to age that well and no real clear sign of the RED anywhere.
