johnnymag3 2,519 #1 Posted March 9, 2023 Good Morning.... Last night I tried to lower the passenger side front window from the drivers seat. It did not go down. I tried from the passenger side switch and it went quickly down. Then I tried to raise it and it will not respond from any switch, Passenger or Drivers. When I hit down it dimmed the lights , so I know its responding to the command. When I hit up...no dimming of the lights. Am I chasing a switch or a motor problem. The motor is a 2 wire type, and polarity switches when you go up or down. I am going to pull the door panel and power the motor directly to see if I can get the darn window up. if in fact it goes up where do I begin to figure out the problem ! Achto HELP !!!!! THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE JOHN
ri702bill 8,316 #2 Posted March 9, 2023 (edited) I had to replace a bad lift motor on my Saturn SL1 years ago. With the inner door panel removed, unplug the motor connector. Use a test light to verify power is good fron both switches for up and down. GM's rivet the motor into the door - kind of a PITA. You MAY be able to spin the motor gear by hand to get the window up. Replacement motor comes with new LARGE rivets (a standard Pop Rivet tool will NOT work...) Check the function first before you button up the door panel... There was an added gift working on the Saturn - the plastic outer door panel is easily removed, giving better access to the lift mechanism from both sides. squonk 41,069 #3 Posted March 9, 2023 One common problem with power windows. The wires break inside the boot from the door pillar to the door from flexing. You may have a broken wire inside that boot. There is also a good chance that car has a body control module which can do all sorts of funky things
R Scheer 502 #4 Posted March 10, 2023 The 2 GM cars I had always had issues with the window switches, the window would go up, but not down etc. I could remove the switch, and put in temporary jumpers to prove the motor was good.
